Volunteer Diving ProgramOur divers conduct an annual survey of restored oyster reefs and participate in planting oysters, studying brood stock, monitoring water quality, and taking oyster and water samples for disease analysis.

We promote safe, effective diving through diver training and education programs. Our program is based on the requirements and standards of recreational dive programs such as PADI, NAUI and others. In 2001, we developed a scientific diving training program to introduce divers to the basic concepts needed to perform the required tasks in low visibility water.

Richard (Dick) Carey is the MRA Safety Officer and Dive Coordinator. Dick is a PADI instructor with more than 25 years experience. MRA is also a member of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS).

We are always looking for more divers to join our team. For more information on getting involved contact Dick Carey using the Email Us form to the right (or below on mobile).
